An eclectic, haphazard, some times light hearted collection of essays, photos, rants and musings. All photos shown and opinions expressed are mine alone, unless otherwise attributed. I’m no expert, I’m just, well--opinionated!

Odd Discovery Under a Bed
We were rearranging some furniture getting ready for some company and we discovered this thing under a bed in one of the spare bedrooms. Anybody know what it is? Is it valuable?
Here's a view of Utah Lake from the Nebo Scenic Loop looking down Santaquin Canyon. Photo by Jack Petersen. Other photos can be found in the Photo Archives, directly below.
"But I think it is an imperfect document, and I think it is a document that reflects some deep flaws in American culture…it also reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day."– Barack Obama on the U.S. Constitution
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.--Mark Twain ______________________
There can be no more fundamental civil right than the right to self-defense, because in some circumstances it *is* the right to life. If someone doesn’t recognize the RKBA [Right to Keep and Bear Arms], they don’t recognize an individual’s right to life, period. Those who talk about "Society’s" rights have no concept of - and thus place no real value on - the worth and dignity of the individual. People like that build re-education camps and gulags.--Voolfie, a blogger

There is danger that, if the Court does not temper its doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact.--Justice Robert H. Jackson in Terminiello v. Chicago (Emphasis added.)

"We must reject the idea that every time a law is broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions." --Ronald Reagan
This is my choice for everyday concealed carry and self-defense. It’s affordable, concealable, 100% reliable, and comes with a lifetime warranty. New stock ships with two double stack 13 round magazines (10 shot magazines are available). The first shot is double-action, subsequent shots are single action and it has an ambidextrous hammer de-cocking safety and slide release. It’s designed for easy take-down for cleaning and quick and easy reassembly. It has an automatic firing pin safety and will not fire accidentally if dropped or bumped. Recoil is minimal and easily handled. I took my daughter shooting and we fired 4 different handguns. This was her favorite.
"I don't think you can criticize the President for trying to act on the belief that they have a substantial amount of chemical and biological stock. ... That is what I was always told."–William Jefferson Clinton as quoted by Joel Siegel in the New York Daily News, 4/16/03
My daughter-in-law Susan has gone into business for herself. She is so crafty and creative. She handcrafts and sews baby blankets, quilts, pillows, handbags, shopping bags, diaper bags, baby clothes, you name it. Check out her blog and website linked directly below. If you like what you see, be sure to tell her I sent you. Her email is suezpetersen@gmail.com .
Freedom of speech does not confer upon anyone the right to be published. Nor does it impose on other citizens the duty to listen or to acknowledge the speech. Most importantly, it does not grant an immunity from criticism for the speech one gives -- because that would also constrain free speech.--Ed Morrissey at Captain's Quarters
...Columbia University won't allow U.S. military recruiters on campus because "Don't ask, don't tell" discriminates against homosexuals, but it will invite Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose government beheads you if they think you're bebottoming.--Mark Steyn
"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. … The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard, against the tyranny which now appears remote in America but which historically has proven to be always possible." --Hubert H. Humphrey
My Financial Guy, Jason Payne 801 226-6036
When I retired from Qwest in January 2004 I didn’t have much going for me in the way of financial advice. I made several mistakes that I wouldn’t have made if I’d had Jason F. Payne advising me from the outset. In a volatile turbulent market environment, Jason has managed our investments carefully and wisely and we’ve prospered, even to the point where we were able to finance the purchase of a new home with no other income than what we can take from our retirement funds. I don’t know where we’d be without him. If you’re considering retirement now or in the future, or if you have large sums of cash and aren’t sure how to manage it, other than just spend it, I recommend you contact Jason. Jason and his wife Joey have four children and live in Spanish Fork. Give him a call at 801 226-6036
